About Course

Goodbye, Mr. Chips is a literature-focused course designed to strengthen students’ reading comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and literary analysis skills through a chapter-by-chapter study of the classic novel Goodbye, Mr. Chips. Learners follow the life of Mr. Chipping, an English schoolmaster at Brookfield, as he grows from a young and uncertain teacher into a respected and beloved figure shaped by discipline, humour, love, loss, service, and memory.

Through guided reading, chapter summaries, vocabulary support, comprehension questions, discussion prompts, and reflective activities, students explore important themes such as education, tradition, personal growth, kindness, loyalty, sacrifice, war, and legacy. The course also helps learners understand character development, setting, narrative tone, and the emotional depth of the novel.

By the end of this course, students will be able to summarize key events, analyze major characters and themes, interpret important passages, build stronger vocabulary, and express thoughtful responses to literature in written and discussion-based formats.
